Here's our young Alex/Sekhmet, being a bully herself. And you get to read some Egyptian! Since it's very hard to read Middle Egyptian directly as hieroglyphs, Gardiner (the first to ever study this language seriously) invented a system called “transliteration” to transcribe hieroglyphs quickly. I am following his transliteration in this comic. Have fun with it, you'll learn a few expressions!

I think I haven't said how much I appreciate the use of, what I assume is, hieroglyphs mixed in with the regular english. =)

Glad you like the mix :) Hieroglyphs are simply symbols that represent either single sounds (mostly consonants) or combinations of sounds (again, mostly consonants). What you see here is called transliteration, which is the transcription of hieroglyphs into Latin characters (although some of these characters were invented specifically to transcribe hieroglyphs), so we can write and read them more easily. I've studied Middle Egyptian for a bit, so nothing you see is made up. I research all the expressions used by my characters very carefully!

She's a real ass :D

World building is a pet peeve of mine, I want readers to live and breathe Kemet-Ra and the Outerlands and everything else about this fictional planet as much as possible :)
